Ben is a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Shipwrights.
The Worshipful Company of Shipwrights' is one of the City of London's 110 livery companies, with its origins dating from before 1199. The Company is 59th in the order of precedence and is based at Ironmongers' Hall in Shaftesbury Place in the Barbican.
Originally formed to safeguard the quality of shipbuilding in London, today, the Shipwrights’ Company provides support to organisations, charities, educational institutions and individuals associated with the Company’s role as a City of London Livery Company and its origins and trade.
Ben was appointed to the Shipwrights' Nominations Committee effective from May 2024 and participates in the Shipwrights' Mentorship program as a mentor to university undergraduates studying a maritime-related subject at one of the participating universities.
In 2020, Ben answered the call of Maritime UK's 'Inspiring the future Maritime' campaign. The campaign aims to connect volunteers from the maritime sector with young people in the classroom, providing the opportunity for inspirational career journeys to be shared, to demonstrate the vast range of opportunities that exist, help them understand the skills and qualifications required, and raise aspirations of the next generation.
In July 2019 Ben took part in the 24 Peaks Challenge in the Lake District (https://www.seafarers.uk/event/the-24-peaks-challenge/) with Carisbrooke Shipping and a team of intrepid hikers, completing the 24-hour challenge in 22 hours 9 minutes. This was the 3rd time Ben had completed the challenge.
Ben looks forward to participating again in future events and raising much-needed funds for Seafarers UK.
